Surely the best essay on the spooky genius of Bryan Ferry's These Foolish Things ("It imagines worlds inside these songs, worlds far removed in some cases from what the song's creators were even aware of"). I've never been able to listen to Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" without imagining campy background vocals and stentorian huffing from the artiste.

I hope Scott gets to The Bride Stripped Bare (Ferry's most satisfying, frustrating solo record) and Taxi (the nakedness of his cover of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and the shivery ghoulishness of "All Tomorrow's Parties" are two of his best-ever performances).
